CIBSS in Schools

CIBSS wants to spark early excitement about science and signalling research and to improve scientific education in schools.

Here are some of the activities we have planned:

CIBSS School Ambassadors

CIBSS will be sending a delegation of students and doctoral researchers to schools in Freiburg and beyond. These CIBSS Ambassadors will share their knowledge and experiences from the university and the research laboratory with the pupils. School-tailored demonstrations and signalling experiments either at the school or at CIBSS facilities.

CIBSS will host an annual Open House where members of the public will be invited to tour the research laboratories and speak with CIBSS scientists from all career levels.

Teacher Training

CIBSS will biannually hold one-day training courses for high school teachers. The focus of these courses will be on integrative biological signalling, synthetic biology, and the ethical and social aspects of life science research.

A taste of what’s to come

CIBSS scientist Julia Jellusova has authored and illustrated several children’s books, including a book entitled ‘Discover your Immune System’. Stay tuned for a book on signalling: how the cells in our body respond to their environment and communicate with one another.
