Ca2+-pumping by PMCA-neuroplastin complexes operates in the kiloHertz-range

Using Ca2+-activated K+ channels as native and fast sensors for intracellular Ca2+ we show that PMCA-NPTN complexes operate in the kiloHertz range (equivalent to several thousand cycles per second) thus providing the fast Ca2+-clearance fundamental for rapid signal transduction in the brain.
