The transport of auxin controlling growth and development in plants is mediated by PIN homo- and heterodimeric complexes. These are stabilized by binding of endogenous flavonols or the auxin transport inhibitor 1-naphthylphthalamic acid (NPA), thereby inhibiting auxin binding and transport by PINs.
