Mitophagy, a type of autophagy, removes damaged mitochondria to maintain quality. It starts with the ULK1 kinase complex engaging receptors via FIP200. We show that phosphorylation events on FIP200 control early and late mitophagy stages, highlighting the importance of this signalling regulation.
