CIBSS School Ambassador Programme

In the CIBSS School Ambassador Programme, life science students and doctoral candidates visit their former schools to give insights into studying at the University of Freiburg and possible career paths. The programme mainly targets senior high school students.

Become a School Ambassador

The School Ambassadors are students and doctoral candidates who are studying or doing their doctorate in a life science subject at the University of Freiburg.

Students from the 3rd semester, doctoral students and postdocs can participate. Possible subjects include all areas of biology research in Freiburg (e.g., biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, synthetic biology etc.) but also bioinformatics, legal aspects of biotechnology, bioethics and biomedicine. Interested students who have a direct connection to biological signalling research and the topics of the Cluster of Excellence CIBSS will be given preference.

Why be a School Ambassador?

The CIBSS School Ambassador programme gives you opportunities to expand your network, give young people career guidance, pass on your enthusiasm for the life sciences and reflect on your own career goals. You will receive a certificate, because the non-university commitment can increase your chances in future job applications. You will be trained for the school visit and CIBSS will reimburse your travel expenses up to 150 € (according to the travel guidelines of the University of Freiburg)

What do you do as a school ambassador?

You visit your former school and introduce yourself and your studies. You can also talk about your own Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral thesis project. Thus the pupils gain valuable and personal insights into the professional field of the life sciences. A visit can also include an experiment that the students carry out themselves under your guidance.

The programme mainly targets senior senior high school students. Especially in biology, chemistry, health, biotechnology and related subjects.

What is the procedure?

There will be a joint introductory meeting for all interested ambassadors to discuss the procedure, documents and materials, and to carry out the student experiment on a trial basis. The registration will start and following the prepared lecture. Food and Drinks will be inclusive in the event. You will prepare your own introduction and the presentation of your project, all further documents and materials will be provided.

As a School Ambassador, you establish contact with the school yourself. Teachers are often the best contacts and are happy to hear from their former students. After your visit, the school/teacher will confirm your ambassadorship on site.
