Rawat et al. discovered stress-induced condensation of the transcriptional regulator NELF in human cells, recapitulated by phase separation of recombinant NELF in vitro. NELF condensation is governed by its disordered tentacles and stresscontingent changes in NELF phosphorylation and SUMOylation.
