Mechanical stretch of the myocardium is proarrhythmic and alters cellular Ca2+ handling. This study found that in atrial cardiomyocytes, stretch increases Ca2+ spark rate via TRPA1 channels and intact microtubules, independently of redox signalling, highlighting TRPA1’s role in arrhythmia development.
