"The Masterclass was a full success"

A day of discussions on ethic, legal and social aspects of the signalling research in CIBSS.

On June 21, 2022, a Masterclass on "Happiness, Virtue and Contingency" was held in Freiburg, organized by CIBSS member Prof. Dr. Marcel van Ackeren and Prof. Dr. Oliver Hallich from the University of Duisburg Essen.

The masterclass focused on the recent work of Prof. Roger Crisp of Oxford University/UK, who is considered one of the world leading ethicists. Crisp, who was present himself, gave the introductory lecture. This was complemented by perspectives from Prof. Dr. Bernward Gesang and Dr. Tatjana Višak of the University of Mannheim, and Prof. Dr. Michael Schefczyk and Dr. Christoph Schmidt-Petri of the KIT in Karlsruhe.

For the workshop, 17 selected international researchers of all career stages arrived from four continents: from students to established professors of moral philosophy. The main focus was on exchanges between Crisp and the participants, as well as discussions of Crisp's recent and some unpublished works. These address fundamental questions and concepts that are particularly relevant to the ethic, legal, and social aspects of the research approaches used in CIBSS.
