Freiburg Hosts 11th Tri-Regional Stem Cell and Development Biology Meeting

Researchers from Freiburg, Basel, and Strasbourg came together in Freiburg for the 11th Tri-Regional Stem Cell and Development Biology Meeting to share discoveries, spark discussions, and strengthen cross-border collaborations.

The Tri-National DevStemCell Network is an open platform that connects researchers in developmental and stem cell biology from Basel, Freiburg, and Strasbourg to foster scientific exchange and collaboration. Established in 2013, it builds on a long tradition of tri-national cooperation in the Upper Rhine region and now includes more than 300 scientists from leading universities and research institutes.

On 19 September 2025, the network’s researchers gathered for the 11th Tri-Regional Stem Cell and Development Biology Meeting in Freiburg. Keynote lectures by Prof. Dr. Cassandra G. Extavour (HHMI, Harvard) and Dr. Ivan Bedzhov (MPI Molecular Biomedicine, Münster) were accompanied by presentations and poster sessions from DevStemCell Network researchers at all career stages, sparking lively discussions among participants.

The annually rotating symposium provides a stimulating platform for scientists from Basel, Freiburg, and Strasbourg to exchange ideas, showcase emerging work on cell fate decisions, signaling networks, and tissue regeneration, and to build new collaborations across the tri-national region. By fostering such dialogue in an intimate, regionally anchored setting, the meeting reinforced the value of cross-border scientific engagement and set the stage for future collective endeavours in the Upper Rhine Valley.
