Using single-cell transcriptomics, we identified a tissue-specific core signature of macrophages in the sciatic nerve and two spatially populations: Relmα+Mgl1+ macrophages in the epineurium and Relmα–Mgl1– macrophages in the endoneurium with different fates and functions.
